Hongkong 12th of March 1836.

To The Honorable M. J. Mercer, Esquire,

Colonial Secretary, &c.

Sir,

On behalf of myself and the undersigned lessees of the Western Market Victoria Hongkong which was nearly totally destroyed by Fire on the 23rd ulte. Through you I earnestly petition the Governor to grant us the remission of the Crown-Rent for the said Market for the current six-months. I am anxious also that you will guide me in the matter of the extensive repairs required.
